TARIC Explained Simply
TARIC (Tarif Intégré Communautaire) is the EU's integrated database containing all customs tariff and trade policy measures. It extends the CN code by an additional 2 digits to 10 figures.
What does TARIC contain?
TARIC contains all measures relevant for imports into the EU:
- Duty rates (standard duties, preferential duties)
- Duty suspensions and quotas
- Anti-dumping and countervailing duties
- Import prohibitions and restrictions
- Common agricultural policy measures
- Trade statistics measures
TARIC Codes (digits 9-10)
Digits 9 and 10 of the TARIC code identify special measures. Example: An anti-dumping measure on shoes from China might have TARIC code 6403 99 96 10, where '10' identifies the specific measure.
💡 For customs declarations, 8-digit CN codes are usually sufficient. TARIC is used for correct application of measures.
