Customs Duty on Smartphones from China
Smartphones from China – whether ordered directly or via AliExpress/Wish – are subject to customs duty and import VAT when entering the EU.
Good News: 0% Duty
Smartphones are duty-free!
- CN 8517 13 00 – Smartphones (Duty: 0%)
- This applies to all smartphones regardless of manufacturer or origin
💡 Tablets and laptops are also duty-free – electronics are generally favored in the EU.
But: Import VAT
Although no duty applies, you must pay 19% import VAT (Germany) on the total value.
⚠️ Since July 2021, there is no €22 exemption anymore!
Watch Out for Counterfeits
Counterfeit branded products are seized and destroyed by customs.
